In Term 3, our big idea is ‘What’s My Place in the World?’
In year one and two our goal is for the students to begin to develop and practice the concept of interconnection and empathy by investigating the links people have with places locally and globally. We will be achieving this goal by exploring where we and others live, where animals live and the natural disasters that occur in these areas. The idea of active citizenship will be developed as students start to explore the importance of places to people and how places can be cared for. We are incredibly excited to be going on an excursion to the Werribee Zoo to begin our exploration for Term 3.
Some questions you might like to discuss at home with your children could be:
Year 3 and 4 students will begin the term focusing on the geography of Australia including the states/territories, major cities and significant natural features. As the term progresses, students will undertake an in-depth study of four famous Australian natural disasters. For their final project, the students will complete and present a comprehensive project on an Australian natural disaster.
The year 5 and 6 students will be looking at our country-Australia. We will explore environmental and geographical features such as deserts, rain-forests, rivers, mountains and oceans and the survival of creatures and people in these types of habitats. We will link, Earth, Fire, Wind and Water to our studies and explore how these four elements impact us and the world. We will look at ways that we as caring citizens can prepare or help others in times of crisis caused by natural disasters and we hope to design our own super heroes to match the four elements to use as inspiration for our studies.
